Climate Control for Special Events Outdoors
Having an event outdoors is something that a lot of people enjoy. Whether it be for a wedding, a party, or just a gathering of friends and family, many people will opt to rent tents to throw a celebration. However, it’s not just important to provide some sort of shelter for your guests. You have to make sure that they are comfortable as well, and that starts with the temperature.
Imagine attending an outdoor event in the middle of winter with snow on the ground. Could you even begin to imagine how cold – and miserable – you and all the other guests would be? Now imagine the reversal. Having an event outdoors in the middle of summer with no proper cooling or air flow set up would make everyone cranky and very uncomfortable. No one enjoys sweating or shivering. When it comes to the logistics of your outdoor event, you will need to ensure that you are taking the right steps to find and rent the appropriate heating and cooling systems.
What equipment should I use in my tent?
What heating or cooling unit you use in your tent will be determined primarily by the season you’re having your event in.
Winter
During the cooler and winter months, it’s going to be a no-brainer that you want to keep your guests comfortable and warm. Making sure your tent is equipped with space heaters is the first step. Depending on the size of your tent, you will also want to make sure you have an appropriate ratio of space to heater that will ensure all parts of the tent are maximized for warmth and keep your guests happy. Depending on the type of heater you go with, these could either be outside or inside the tent. Another option would be a patio heater, which is typically used for restaurants or other facilities that have seating outdoors. If you have a section of the tent that maybe closer to the outside or will be entertaining in an outdoor area, then this could provide a “hot spot” for guests.
Summer
With so many people congregating in close quarters, the last thing you want is your guests to be sweaty. In the summer, you will want to make sure that you have the proper cooling and air flow throughout the event space. Fans will be ideal to spread throughout the space to increase air flow. For even hotter days, you’ll want to invest in a powerful cooling unit, such as Allied Rental’s Mobile Cool, which is a portable temporary cooling unit that is designed to cool down large spaces.
Additional ways to control climate in tents
It’s important to put yourself in the shoes of your guests. What does the space need to look like in order to ensure they are comfortable and have a great time? Aside from having the proper equipment, you can ask guests to come in comfortable attire. If they are there for a wedding reception, ask guests to ditch the heavy jackets and clothes and opt for something lighter that will let the skin breathe. For a summer event, you also have the option to forgo the sides of the tent which, with the help of some industrial rental fans, will allow more natural air flow. Additionally, it would be in the best interest of your guests to hold the event during a part of the day when it isn’t too hot or on a day when it’s exceptionally cold.
